What Does the Professional Community Give?
The large scale and diversity of fields of engineering activities leads to the conclusion that no single professional organization can represent the whole sector. For this reason, there are currently organizations in the field of professional certification in various fields of activity known as Professional Engineering Communities, such as:
National Association of Mining Engineers (Russia);
IOM3 Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (UK).
Their mission is to work with government, industry, academia, and a number of other organizations to represent, promote, and advance the engineering profession, helping to ensure that registered engineers maintain the highest standards and reputation of the profession worldwide.
Minimum Requirements for Grades

The UK Engineering Council is the main supervisory body in the UK for engineering.
The Engineering Council establishes and maintains an internationally recognised system of competencies and ethical conduct for professional engineers, which are detailed in the UK-SPEC Standard of Professional Engineering Competence.

IOM3 representative office in Russia – National Association of Mining Engineers
IOM3 representative office in Russia – National Association of Mining Engineers
The National Association of Mining Engineers is a Russian professional community whose goals are:
- Integration of Russian mineral engineers into the global community;
- Creation and stimulation of a system of continuous development and advanced training of specialists of the mineral resource complex;
- Increasing the prestige of the mining engineering profession;
- Development of an international system for evaluating the qualifications of mining engineers.
In 2015 and to develop the set tasks, an agreement was signed, on interaction and cooperation between the Association and the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3, UK).
In 2019, a regional office of IOM3 was established on the basis of the Association. Under the terms of the agreement, IOM3 transfers to the Association the exclusive authority to conduct accreditation of specialists of mineral resource companies of the Russian Federation for professional titles from the British profile councils
The National Association of Mining Engineers is the operator of the Competence Centre for International Accreditation of Mineral Resources Specialists, and promotes the integration of Russian engineers into the global community.

- Section D - Recommendation: candidates must have two guarantors who are professional members or fellows of IOМ3.
- Section E - Resolution: The applicant and his/her sponsor must sign declarations at the end of the application form, and the guarantor must sign all supporting documents.
Two experts must be listed on the application form: members of the Association and IOM3 with at least MIMMM or FIMMM familiar with the candidate, one of the experts is chosen by the sponsor, who signs the application form, the Professional review and the Case study.

Candidates should choose a project that demonstrates the range of their knowledge, experience, technical ability, and depth of responsibility. It is critical that the candidate clearly identify their role in the project, as well as clearly define technical aspects, issues, outcomes, and impact. According to the agreement with IOM3, all applicants from the Russian Federation are accredited only through the National Association and Competence Centre.
